OUR STORY

An unexpected beginning. A lasting calling.

An Unexpected Beginning

Ridgewood Acres began with roots already planted in Bourbon County through family and the strong faith community in Fort Scott. But ranching was never part of the plan. Coming from the suburbs of the Northeast, we never imagined ourselves becoming a farming family.

That changed during calving season.

While spending time on a family farm, an ordinary workday was interrupted by something unusual in the pasture. Through a pair of binoculars, a newborn calf could be seen struggling to reach her mother. She would slowly get to her feet, try again, and be turned away.

She was getting weaker.

With very little cattle experience but no question that something needed to be done, we had to act.

What happened next changed us forever.

THE RESCUE

The calf was brought in from the pasture, comforted, and given colostrum.

THE BREAKTHROUGH

After nearly two hours, her mother was finally brought into the pen and allowed her to nurse.

A LIFE RESTORED

What had begun with uncertainty ended with a healthy calf back where she belonged.

Ridgewood Acres was born.

After the pen was opened, mother and calf walked  away together, disappearing into the fog.

That morning didn't just change one calf's life.

It changed ours.

It awakened in us a love for the land, a deep respect for the animals entrusted to our care and a desire to build something rooted in faith, stewardship, and responsibility.

Their story ended. Ours had just begun.
